OUYC is planning to form a new match racing squad for 2017/18. Each crew will likely consist of 3-4 sailors with the option to field multiple crews if there is enough interest. Training is most likely to be sailed in J80s which can be chartered at Queen Mary Sailing Club and Royal Southern Yacht Club, or SB20s at Farmoor Reservoir.

Match racing is a form of racing in which 2 boats sail against each other around a short windward-leeward course. This discipline places emphasis on tactical nouse, boat speed, and boat handling with crews required to execute precise manoeuvres at both low and high speeds. Most competitions are sailed in J80s, Elliots, or Sonars.

The 2017-18 UK match racing calendar is as follows:

9-10 Sept, RYA National Women’s Championship, Weymouth
